A small off-road machine can become surprisingly hard to recover once it is buried in mud, hung on a bank, or pulling a loaded trailer. Choose winch capacity from the machine's loaded weight and the terrain rather than from dry vehicle weight alone. An ATV/UTV winch should provide useful reserve without being so large that it overwhelms the battery, mounting plate, or front structure. A pulley block can create mechanical advantage for a difficult pull when the anchor and rigging are rated appropriately. For a heavy side-by-side, farm UTV, or machine carrying tools and cargo, verify the actual gross weight before assuming a winch sold for small ATVs will be adequate.
ATV and UTV batteries are much smaller than full-size truck batteries, and their charging systems have limited output. The engine should normally be running during a recovery when safe and consistent with the winch instructions, but the charging system may still not replace energy as quickly as the winch uses it. Use short, correctly sized cables directly to the battery and keep terminals clean and tight. Make short controlled pulls rather than holding the switch continuously at high load. If the winch slows dramatically, the battery voltage collapses, or the cables become hot, stop and test the battery and connections instead of installing a larger fuse.
Use a model-specific winch plate or a properly engineered cradle attached to the machine's frame. The fairlead should line up with the center of the drum and the winch should not interfere with steering, suspension, radiator airflow, or body panels. Avoid mounting through thin bumper skins or cargo racks that were not designed for recovery loads. Compact ATV installations also need enough access to operate the clutch and service the rope. Route cables away from exhaust heat, sharp edges, and moving suspension. After the first few loaded recoveries, recheck mounting bolts because the bracket and hardware can settle.
Yes. Synthetic rope is light and easy to handle, which suits a compact ATV or UTV, but its smaller diameter means abrasion damage can become serious quickly. Inspect the first few feet carefully because that section sees the most contact with rocks, roots, and anchors. Keep the hawse fairlead smooth and make sure the rope cannot rub on bumper edges at extreme pull angles. After mud or sand use, rinse the rope and allow it to dry before respooling under light tension. Replace it if there are deep cuts, melted fibers, severe fuzzing, or flattened damaged sections.
Sherpa offers model-specific wireless control options for ATV winches. Check compatibility with the exact winch and control socket before ordering rather than assuming a 4x4 remote will plug in. Wireless control can be useful when the operator needs to stand away from the machine to watch the rope and anchor, but the standard control should remain available as a backup. After installation, test IN and OUT direction with the winch unloaded and confirm the remote stops immediately when the button is released. Keep the receiver and wiring protected from water, mud, and moving components.

My stallion broke down after years of heavy use and thought I had to buy a new one. Found out it was the drive motor and just replaced it with one of these babies easy as.. Job done
Picked up one of these bundles online a while back and love this unit. Great to have on the truck for any inflation needs.
These hand winches work really well.. Grabbed one for my boat and handles it with ease.. Recommend
Bought a 4 pack a few weeks back. These are great, easy to use and look awesome. Handy to have 4 too..
Sturdy, well built and good weight to it. Can hear the quality as it ratchets. Easy company to deal with and delivery was seamless.
Awesome winch!
Aptly named......Steed
2nd Sherpa I have purchased. Just mounted it. Have not used yet. Mounted on MME bumper. Suggest mount all pieces to bumper before mount to truck. One of the cables from the controller to the motor (black) was too short and had to be lengthened (no big deal). I used 1/0 cables, so I had to remove stock positive feed to controller, drill out to accept 1/0 cable, and put back together. With the distance I had the stock cables were not big enough. Looks to be a great product. Maybe sherpa could modify controller design to accept a bigger cable with an insert when the installation requires.
This was the second time we order this winch, easy to navaigate the web page and delivery time was better than expected. On the first order i had a question about the winch and i called before they opened, didn't leave a message, and later that evening i had a gentleman call me back telling me he missed a call and wanted to know if i needed any help. Great product and Great customer service.
Although I haven’t mount my new winch yet, I can say that shipping was a lot faster than I expected
very impressed with this winch. very well built and strong winch.

Sherpa 4x4 'Stallion' - 25,000Lb Winch
I used the 25,000 LBS winch this past weekend to pull out my 1997 Cat D3C bulldozer from a 3 foot deep 100 foot wide mud bog. The remote functioned perfectly as did the winch! I did add two blocks to increase purchase & I had purchased an extra synthetic rope to get to a stable tree to pull against. I was able to remove the machine without any outside assistance and I can not imagine the cost I would of incurred if I did not own this winch. The winch has become essential on our farm and I have not found a piece of equipment that it cant "unstick"! Great piece of essential kit!
So excited to use this 25,000 pulling monster to pull down massive pine trees this weekend. Installed in 2007 RAM 6.7L 3500 Megacab and fit perfectly under a road armor assault steel bumper with bull bars. My old 12,500 warn winch was giving out and I found sherpa and went for it. Time will tell with the performance of the winch and all the sherpa gear I ordered
GRREAT DEAL. GRREAT LOOKING. BUT DID NOT RECIVE STICKERS LIKE I SEE OTHER GETTING IN BOX WITH WINCH. I GUESS A SMALL COMPLANT. SO FAR SO GOOD.
